van Dieman (Diemy) 's Description.

We have a 8 year old black and white male husky with ice blue eyes named van Dieman (Diemy) that we need to re-home. We are currently living in a rental property. Although the backyard is large, the fences are not very secure. My husbands sister has been looking after Diemy for the past 12 months for us as we are unable to contain him. Although she loves him, she was unable to give him the attention he requires. We have had him back now for approx a month, but are constantly frustrated with him escaping. At one end of our street is the Pacific Hwy and at the other end of our street is a paddock with horses. We have resulted in tying him up even when we are home, for the fear that he will be hit by a car and potential hurt someone as well as himself.

Dieman is a lovable character. He has a quite nature. He doesn't really bark, but will always howl along to any sirens. He doesn't like fireworks and if no-one is home while they are going off, he will find a way of getting out. As with most husky's give him a good tummy rub and he is your best mate for life. He loves the kids but needs to be supervised around them as he is very strong and can topple them over quite easily. So perhaps a family with older kids may be better suited. He sits and shakes hands as well as sitting for his dinner and waiting until told he can have it (although he is not always obedient with this and may need someone who is persistent). He is difficult to walk at first as he gets excited and likes to power on. However he will settle down about half way through the walk. He may need a bit of training to help settle him down. We also have a 8 year old female german shepherd. They get along really well, but I am unsure how he would be with a male dog.

Diemy is microchipped, but hasn't been desexed. He will need a secure backyard with high fences. He would be happy in a small backyard as he loves to lay about, but he will need to be given regular walks. He is an outdoor dog and knows not to go inside, even when the door is open.

Hopefully you will be able to help us find someone suited to van Dieman.
